On Practice: Tablature
By Daniel Roest

Tablature is a system of guitar notation using six lines to represent the strings of the guitar and numbers to represent frets to be fingered. In combination with standard notation, tablature is very useful, in that it tells you where to finger a note. That matters to guitarists because an E, for example, might be played in six different places. Tablature is being used more and more in publishing of gutiar music, especially in magazines devoted to the guitar. See the Links page, Listen section, for some guitar magazine links.
